Light Emitting Diode:
LED's are the next big evolution in eco-lighting but finding a good bulb that puts out a lot of light is hard to find. You will find a lot of cheaper LED's on ther internet but you'll probably be very disappointed with the low amount of light (Lumens) generated.
Another issue is heat dissipation. Unlike traditional bulbs, LED's generate heat at the back of the device so the design of the device is critical to long life. That's why LED's typcially have a fairly hefty head sink or some other way to remove heat.
