With Bye-Bye Standby ® you can power down connected electrical devices in your home, office, or school, using the wireless remote control with smart socket adapters, giving you peace of mind, saving you money and helping the environment by conserving energy.
Although a power bar can accomplish the same task , some people can't seem to get into the habit of turning off the power bar every day. The Bye-Bye Standby remote makes its easier to get into a good daily habit. To make it even more obvious, connect a small 0.1 watt LED nightlight on the same circuit to give you a visual reminder to turn off the devices before retiring for the evening.
Each kit comes with 2 switches that plug into any standard outlet and one remote control. The remote can control upto 3 switches. Additional switches can be ordered separately. You can also plug a standard power bar into the switch in order to support the shut down of multiple devices (e.g. High speed modem, wireless router , printers). By the NumbersIts difficult to generalize how many kilowatts will be saved with this device so we'll give you a real example from one of our conservation coaching sessions.
We found a small radio/cd/tape player in the home of one of our customers that was consuming 20 watts of power even though it was not turned on (This is typically referred to as standby power or phantom watts). The real surprise came when we turned on the radio and found that it only consumed 27 Watts! So nearly 75% of the electricity is wasted 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
This stereo was connected for at least 5 years. The standby power consumption had cost the homeowner $85.00 in electricity and 190Kg of greenhouse gases had been emmitted into the atmosphere (based on Ontario emission factors). If this home were located in a province or state that predominately generates electricity from fossil fuels (e.g. AB,SK,NB or IN,OH,ND) , the greenhouse emmissions would have been 3 to 4 times greater! So, we encourage everyone to find those watt critters and put them on a serious eco-diet.
BTW: If you're close to a patch, you can start you're phantom watt hunt by renting a watt meter for free!
