This is a 57.25 inch (long) by 3 inch (diameter) copper Drain Water Heat Recovery (DWHR) pipe with an efficientcy rating of 53.5%.  The DWHR increases the temperature of the water going to your water heater by up to 14 degrees Celcius by recovering heat from the hot drain water that normally gets wasted. As a result, the water heater doesn't have to work as hard (hence saving energy) and the time it takes to heat new water is also decreased. For water tank heaters, running out of hot water will be less frequent. Tankless heaters will heat the water more quickly resulting in less time waiting for the hot water to come out of the shower head.
